The Best of Big Magic
I would like to thank Liz Gilbert for writing this book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear personally for me. Because you know, I'm the only creative person that's ever had trouble creating. This is basically my new creative Bible. I liked this book so much that I've gone through it three times already: listening once via Audible, reading it the first time, then reading it again in order to highlight my favorite, creative words of wisdom. I actually bought a signed copy from Barnes & Noble so that means a little bit of her creative magic could have been trapped in the book and I might absorb it by osmosis.
Anyways, here are my top ten favorite nuggets of creative common sense that are sure to inspire any writer, painter, potter, designer, sculptor, architect, poet, musician or anyone else that has at least a little bit of artistic energy bouncing around in his or her body. (Yes, I just intentionally used the word creative in every single sentence.)
10. You do not need anybody's permission to live a creative life.
9. We don't have time for perfect. In any event, perfection is unachievable...
8. I always try to remind myself that I am having an affair with my creativity...
7. It's never too late.
6. Be the weirdo that dares to enjoy.
5. You already know so much more than you think you know.
4. You are not required to save the world with your creativity.
3. If you made something and it didn't work out, let it go.
2. What do you love doing so much that the words failure and success essentially become irrelevant.
1. Follow your curiosity.
This is just a small, Amuse-bouche sized sample of the delicious, creative wisdom that is served in this amazing book so go download or buy your own copy. Like, right now. Your genius will thank you.
